Todays modern electronics allow people to enjoy entertainment at home like never before. With lower priced and sophisticated equipment, a home theater and a home entertainment room are not only for the rich and famous. To maximize the home entertainment experience, select the right furniture and choose the right space within the house. The best results can be achieved by setting up a home theater in an isolated space away from busy areas of the home for uninterrupted viewing. A home entertainment center that houses a TV and video games can be set up in the family room or living room. A well placed and well designed home entertainment room can provide hours of enjoyment with family and friends.

An Authentic Home Theater Experience
Deciding where to put your home entertainment room is an important decision. Basements with small windows or an attic room are popular choices, and you can also use a den, a loft or a spare bedroom if it is large enough, around 12 x 12 feet. For an authentic theater experience, the darker you can make the room, the better. Darken the windows with black-out shades, paint the walls a dark color, and use darker shades for carpet or rugs on the floors. Refrain from decorating with shiny or distracting artwork that can interfere with the viewing experience. The right insulation can muffle sounds so they do not interfere with other people in the house.

Furnishing a Home Theater
Purchase seating for your home entertainment room that suits the viewers who will use it. Reclining seats and easy chairs with ottomans are the perfect choice for a home theater room used by singles or a couple of adults. For families with children, large, cushioned sofas are a better choice to accommodate everyone. Make sure the sofa frame is durable enough to withstand heavy use, and select a fabric that will hold up over time. Add a long table and several strategically placed smaller tables for popcorn, drinks and other snacks while viewing.

Choosing the Right Entertainment Center
Select an entertainment center that will accommodate your electronics and serve your needs in the future. The unit should provide enough storage space for game consoles, remote control devices, and whatever else you have or intend to buy. You also need storage for instructional manuals and shelving for games, DVDs, CDs and cassette tapes. Measure your flat screen TV to make sure it will fit the entertainment center, and measure your wall space to confirm that the piece will fit. Choose a style that complements the furniture in the room, whether it is traditional, transitional or contemporary. Entertainment centers in solid wood or wood veneers are likely to stand the test of time and become an impressive focal point in the room.
